I work as a research group leader in the field of Bioinformatics, enjoying a lot the development of methods and software for interactive and reproducible research, with the big picture aim of realizing Comprehensive & Comprehensible Omics Data Analysis. Trained in Biomedical Engineering, I now consider myself a Bioinformatician, working together with a team of brilliant PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and master students.
Our expertise allows us to sit at the interface across disciplines such as Bioinformatics, Statistics, Genomics, Biology, and Medicine. This drives our work to find means to communicate about complex topics to the broader community, and this includes open source software development and open science practices. I am engaged in the delivery of courses and workshops committed to cross-disciplinary scientific training, with a focus on teaching quantitative disciplines to life and medical scientists.
I love working in the R programming language, and with software from the Bioconductor project, where I also contributed some packages to achieve better analysis and comprehension of biological data. When I am not sitting behind a computer screen, I like to get physically overwhelmed by my three wonderful kids and spend time with them, cooking and enjoying life around science.
